About Me

I am a Social Practice Artist based in Cardiff with over 20 years’ experience of working in non-arts settings spanning the cultural, health, social care, education, business, and charitable sectors. I use a person centred, collaborative, enquiry-based approach, and work predominantly with people who are disadvantaged, displaced, vulnerable or at risk of social exclusion. I use a variety of creative media from instant photography and collage to low-tech print and stitch to engage with and stimulate social processes. I am interested in ways of working that contribute to a more socially just and caring society. My work has been exhibited at Royal Festival Hall, featured in The Observer, published by a-n, and shared at academic research conferences.

In recent years, since qualifying as a psychotherapist and training in trauma informed approaches, my work has focused more on how social practice can either explore, enhance, or expose issues connected to emotional and psychological well-being. This work extends beyond my creative practice, and I have developed a range of services to support creative professionals to position the ethics of care at the heart of their practice. I provide:

  • one to one support for artists and arts researchers working in challenging contexts to critical reflect on their practice and its impact on their psychological and emotional wellbeing
  • consultancy and training for arts organisations and commissioners to support them to better understand and respond to the care needs of their staff, the artists they commission and the communities that they serve.
