In 2015 I was introduced to the project ‘Learning to Love You More,’ which is a website showcasing works submitted by the general public in response to assignments devised by artists Miranda July and Harrell Fletcher.
Although the project was closed for submissions, I couldn’t resist the challenge of responding to an assignment. I chose number #63 ‘make an encouraging banner,’ and have been doing the same ever since! Working with woollen blankets and vintage fabrics I create my banners from found sayings with the intention of gently inspiring compassionate self-talk in the people who view them.
I have a small selection of banners in my Etsy shop alongside digital prints of other stitched and letterpress works. Time permitting, I take on bespoke banner commissions. If there are some words of encouragement that you would like to see in banner form, please get in touch.
You can view a slide show of my banners here.
