My social practice has been honed and developed over the last 20 years through my experiences of working in settings that span the cultural, health, social care, education, business, and charitable sectors. I use a person centred, collaborative, enquiry-based approach, and work predominantly with people who are disadvantaged, displaced, vulnerable or at risk of social exclusion. I use a variety of creative media from instant photography and collage to low-tech print and stitch to engage with and stimulate social processes. Since qualifying as a psychotherapist, and training in trauma informed approaches, my work has focused more on how social practice can either explore, enhance, or expose issues connected to psychological well-being.
My practice is research-based and generally, my projects either respond to a particular need or issue within a community or explore the creative potential of bringing people together around a shared goal or interest. If you are interested in the way that I work and have an idea that you would like to discuss, with a view to commissioning me, please get in touch. I also offer consultancy services and can support your organisation to devise, develop and evaluate social practice/participatory projects.
You can find out about my past projects and the people that I have worked with by visiting the Social Practice section of this website.
